Grandparents often report that what they need most is accurate information about existing programs and services available to their families. Many of these families need someone to guide and connect them to existing benefits programs, local support groups, respite care programs, and other helpful government and non-profit services.
In planning to address those needs, the Senate of Pennsylvania through the sponsorship of State Senator Raphael Musto has engaged the services of a consultant Joseph Clapps. Mr Clapps will be working with the Foundation for Aging Services, a non-profit entity associated with the Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne/Wyoming counties and the Intergenerational Consortium. The latter is a group formed from the ranks of local social service agencies and includes several grandparents.
Mr. Clapps will serve as Intergenerational Coordinator and will also work toward the development of a Directory of Services that will be “ user friendly” to the grandparent. An important additional goal is to develop an awareness of the gaps in service as well as existing barriers. Mr. Clapps is located in the County Human Services Building 93 State Street, Wilkes-Barre. PA. He may be reached at 570-822-1158 Ext. 3425 or 1-800-252-1512 or by EMail at Josephclapps@aol.com . Mr. Clapps is available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30 AM until 3:30 PM. Voice Mail messages will be returned as soon as practical. Mr. Clapps will also be listed as a resource through the Help Line Services Directory at 570-829-1341 or 1-800 432-8007. |
